how important is a diet to any person? you have your personal preferences no doubt?

this was from a friend, and i thought it might be interesting to post here in Gothicmatch

IMHO - One of the best acts of love you can give to others is to look after your health.

For you are a major drag on their life if you become seriously ill and it was avoidable.

I have a Bachelor of Science in human health. I've avidly studied the field for nearly 20 years now.

As such I know that a major chunk, often most, of the modern illnesses (like diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, dementia, obesity...) are caused by our lifestyles and ARE quite easily PREVENTABLE.

For example, "According to the International Agency for Research in Cancer "...80-90 per cent of human cancer is determined environmentally and thus theoretically avoidable."

Such diseases can also be reversed if we correct our lifestyles early enough ... being long before symptoms show ...
They are largely caused by our modern lifestyles, being:

1/. The over use of pharmaceutical drugs ... They are *officially* a leading cause of injury and death.

In particular see the first article Medical journals report that pharmaceutical drugs kill over 100,000 people each year in the USA." ...

and this article

Quote from latter article: "The total number of iatrogenic human deaths (induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures) [per annum in the USA] shown in the following table is 783,936." That would mean more deaths are due to modern medicine than from heart disease.

2/. The "western diet" is a major cause of disease and premature death ... the disease-causing culprits include:

~ too many high glycemic carbohydrates (like white breads and fries - they spike your blood sugar, leading to increased hunger, over-eating, insulin-resistance, weight gain, eventually diabetes and heart disease etc.))

~ Way too much meat and not enough veggies and fruit.

See the short article in my journal titled "Tips to Live Longer in Better Health - What Scientific Studies Show" ...on how certain food is linked with lower rates of disease, a slimmer waist and a longer life.

~ To learn about the healthiest way of eating - being how the longest-living and healthiest people in the world* eat,
Imagine being 100 and still able to get around, playing golf etc!
* = as documented by state records.

3/. Smoking cigarettes - we all know how bad they are. I also know what it's like to be made very ill long-term from passive smoke (my parents throughout childhood).

4/. Lack of physical activity.

5/. Chemical pollution of our food, air, water, living spaces.

6/. Sleep problems - now my last personal major challenge!

So I incorporate that knowledge into my lifetyle.

I also take high quality nutritional supplements every day. Why? a) Countless medical studies show their benefits. b) Because modern agriculture and food processing strips food of many nutrients. Most supplements are crap (low pointless amounts) and are a waste of money. This short article covers some of this and will give you tips on how to find some good ones in your area

I look after my health because I love life and I certainly do not want to suffer unecessarily like many people do. I also do not want to be a crippling burden, an annoyance, on other people.

I have witnessed numerous people suffer terribly and die decades prematurely from self-induced disease (eg. my mother took 2 years to die from smoking).

I know what it's like to have to suffer terribly when looking after such a person... who is dieing slowly and requires constant care. Not only are you sad about them, you can lose your relationships, your health and your financial security. So I consider it my social duty, to those I love and who love me, not to wreck their lives by making myself ill.

I've authored dozens of detailed articles and a book that is incomplete (hard drive crash) on how to live a long life in good health.

Annoyingly my relevant websites are down, need a week spare to rejuvenate and update them. Anyway, there is plenty from the above you can study.
